Note: According to the instructions (in room 231), the rubber belt needs to replaced about once a year. There are spare belts in the rolling cabinet, and more can be ordered from Cenco. The metal spheres should be kept clean of dust and dirt or oil from hands. They should especially not get scratched or dented, as this provided a sharp point for charge to leak off from and lowers the peak voltage attainable. Discharge sphere should be connected by a banana plug lead to the ground of the Van de Graaff generator.
